As we enter the new calendar year, we begin to anticipate the new “Mah Jongg” year and card. It seems a long time between January and April.  If you are an avid player, you may be getting tired of the card, after all it is eight months old already.  Have you built all the hands?  Do you have a favorite section?  Or are you just bored with ...

A Mah Jongg Set

Posted by:

Would You Make this Purchase?

From Leah –

hermesset

One of my students sent this to me.  I was wondering if anyone has ever seen it or unimaginably played with this set?  Believe it or not there is a wait list for this product.  Yes, it says $46,000.00.

It looks small, almost like a travel set.  I don’t think I could bring myself to let people touch ...

(Please note Leah is currently at sea but is sending her blogs in order to share the experience. – frs)

It was an interesting day at Mah Jongg aboard The World today.  The residents come and go at will, so we had some new participants at Beginners today that boarded the ship in Charleston.

tiles3Of course, those having come to the lessons from day 1 are eager to proceed.  Next to ...

Day 7

(Please note Leah is currently at sea but is sending her blogs in order to share the experience. – frs)

It was another beautiful day in Charleston.  I tried to make the most of it.

I took a run along the coast, the wall that surrounds the historic district.  It was a great route, there are several parks, you’re along the water and you can see many of the historic homes.  In the afternoon, I relaxed by the pool.  I ...

Day 5-6

(Please note Leah is currently at sea but is sending her blogs in order to share the experience. – frs)

As we are in port, there are no Mah Jongg Classes, or classes of any sort.

Charleston is charming, wonderful restaurants, and  it abounds with history.

Of course there is shopping too; whether you go to The MarketPlace or the Fashion District there is plenty to tempt you.  I try to stay focused on the Maj and try not to turn my ...

Day 4

(Please note Leah is currently at sea but is sending her blogs in order to share the experience. – frs)

tiles4Today was our first day of two sessions. I had initially thought there would be no distractions.  There are actually many.

The World provides lectures and activities of interest.  Also, I believe many residents conduct business while on board.   Tomorrow we dock in Charleston, South Carolina, so today there were lectures about ...

Day 2

mjtilesToday we had our first class.  In attendance we had seven students.  I know it doesn’t sound like much, but there are only about 120 guests on the ship currently.  We have 6 beginners and one intermediate player.  My understanding is that several players already knowing how to play ...

Most Mah Jongg enthusiasts are very excited about the 2015 National Mah Jongg League new card launching. However, if you are a new player(even just learning), this may be a dreaded event.

The important thing to remember, is that you are playing Mah Jongg. There are no Mah Jongg police that will swoop in and confiscate your set or disband your game, ...

Embracing your Mah Jongg Personality

Posted by:

comedytragedy

Believe it or not, your personality traits impact how you play the game of Mah Jongg.

Are you a pleaser?  Are you aggressive/offensive minded?  Are you indecisive?  Are you defensive?

These are just a few questions to ask yourself.  There is no good or bad Mah Jongg personality.

However, if you know yourself, maybe embrace those tendencies.

The defensive person though they are interested in winning, can become obsessed with ruining their opponents hands.  Many times this ...
